Guide to a Better Smile
The best way to significantly improve your smile is to have good dental work. This means whiter teeth and straight (or aligned) teeth.
For whiter teeth, you can try gels, white strips, polishing compounds, or bleaching.
The popular tooth whitening gels usually contain peroxide to whiten teeth. You place the gel in mouth guards and wear this usually for 2 to 4 hours a day (check the product for usage guidelines).
There are also gels that you simply dab the gel on your teeth after brushing. With so many of these products on the market, it is best to consult you dentist about them.
There are "white strips" products that guarantee whiter teeth in just 2 weeks. You apply the white strips to your teeth for 30 minutes, twice a day.
Toothpaste with polishing compounds contain mild abrasives and polishing agents to help remove tooth stains. These are probably the most convenient tooth whitening products to use.
Bleaching is used to lighten the shade of your teeth. Active ingredient for most tooth whitening products are 10% urea peroxide. When this comes in contact with water, hydrogen peroxide is release to try and lighten the color of your teeth. Although generally safe, some side effects may include gum sensitivity or irritability.
You can opt to do the bleaching yourself at home. But it is recommended that you let a professional dentist do this job correctly for you.
